LOS ANGELES, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell in a hard-fought battle to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 16-11 on Saturday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop both meetings against Occidental this season and fall to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Sonia Olson who notched her seventh hat-trick of the season with three goals in the loss. Kate Immergluck, Sal Marx, Sarah Woo and Lilly Thomey all contributed with two goals each.
Occidental jumped out to an early lead as they found the back of the net just 30 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens responded with back-to-back goals from Immergluck and Woo to take their first lead of the game at 2-1.
The Tigers tied the game after a powerplay goal but Olson and Woo scored to push the Sagehens' lead to 4-2. Pomona-Pitzer consistently played from in front for the majority of the first half but the Tigers took control of the game as they ended the first half with four-straight goals and took a 9-6 lead heading into halftime.
Occidental opened up the second half with four of the first five goals to take a 13-7 lead within the first five minutes of the half. The Sagehens came back with two of the next three goals from Thomey and Marx to cut the lead down to 14-9, but the Tigers kept the Sagehens away from striking distance as they netted two more goals to take their largest lead of the night at 16-9. Pomona-Pitzer fought back late to score back-to-back goals to cut the lead down to 16-11 but ran out of time as Occidental was able to hang on for the win.
