CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Williams College 15-11 on Tuesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 8-2 overall.
The Sagehens and Ephs began the game trading goals as Sweeny netted her first goal of the night to tie the game at 1-1. Williams went on to score three-straight goals before the Sagehens responded with back-to-back goals from senior Lilly Thomey and Sweeny to cut the lead down to one goal at 4-3.
Williams came back with two-straight goals to extend the lead to 6-3 before the Sagehens ended the half with three of the final five goals of the half from Thomey, sophomore Lily Herrmann and Sweeney as Pomona-Pitzer went into the half with an 8-6 deficit.
Williams did its damage early in the second half as they came out of halftime and netted five-straight goals to take a 13-6 lead with 17:38 remaining. Pomona-Pitzer came back with three goals in a row from first-year Zoe Puccia, sophomore Kate Immergluck and first-year Eleanor Mackey to cut the lead down to 13-9.
Williams extended its lead back up to six goals after they netted back-to-back goals with 7:31 remaining, but Pomona-Pitzer came back with two goals from sophomore Sarah Woo and Sweeney to cut the lead own to 15-11 with 3:44 remaining. The Sagehens tried to force a late comeback but Williams was able to hold on late for the win.
