CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 18-6 on Saturday night at the South athletics Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Thomey along with sophomores Kate Immergluck and Sarah Woo who all shared a team-high four goals in the win. Junior Annie Price picked up her 10th win of the season with four saves on eight shots faced.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a good start against the Bulldogs with some big first half offense. The Sagehens started out with the first seven goals of the game to take a commanding 7-0 lead to start.
Thomey, Immergluck and Woo started out the night with the first three goals of the game followed by first-years Maggie Sweeney and two goals from Eleanor Mackey to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Sagehens added one more to their goal streak after Woo scored off of a free position shot before Redlands responded with three-straight goals to cut the lead down to 7-3.
After giving up three goals on defense, the Sagehens came back with four-straight to end the half. Immergluck started out with a goal off of a powerplay followed by first-year Jessalyn Simon-Parker and Woo to take a 10-3 lead. The Sagehens added one more goal after Mackey saved a ball and found sophomore Lily Herrmann who scored with three seconds left to give the Sagehens an 11-3 lead heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer kept up its strong offense against the Bulldogs as they opened up the second half with three-straight goals from Woo and two from Thomey to extend the lead to 14-3. The Bulldogs came back with a goal after being up a player, but the Sagehens came back with back-to-back goals from Immergluck and Thomey to take their largest lead of the game at 16-4 with 11 minutes remaining.
The Sagehens and Bulldogs alternated goals to end the game as Immergluck and Mackey each added one more to their totals as the Sagehens held on for the big win on Senior Night.
