CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 17-5 on Saturday morning at the South Athletic Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had three players earn hat-tricks in the game as sophomore Lily Herrmann led the way with a career-high four goals. First-year Leah Haverkamp earned her first hat-trick of her career with three goals and senior Lilly Thomey tallied her fourth hat-trick of the season. First-year Emily Vomvas earned her first win of her career inside the cage with six saves in the win.
The Sagehens and Herrmann wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as she registered her hat-trick within the first two minutes of the game to get the Sagehens out to a 3-0 lead. The Sagehens began to run away with the game in the first half as first-year Eleanor Mackey followed with a goal and then the Sagehens struck with a player down as Thomey extended the lead to 5-0.
Pomona-Pitzer eventually extended its goal-streak to 10 as sophomore Kate Immergluck, Haverkamp, Herrmann and first-year Steffi Larson tallied goals to give the Sagehens a 10-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Sagehens came out in the second half and kept the offense going with three of the first four goals of the half with two from Thomey and another from Larson to extend the lead to 13-2 with 21:51 remaining.
The offense continued to overwhelm the Poets with Mackey, first-year Zoe Puccia, Haverkamp and sophomore Thyra Herrmann all notching goals in the second half as the Sagehens bounced back with a big win over Whittier.
