Red-Hot Women's Soccer Rolls Past La Verne

La Verne, Calif. - Four different players scored goals as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team won its fourth straight game with a convincing 4-0 win over La Verne on Saturday.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the SCIAC, while winning their fourth straight game, all by shutout. Pomona-Pitzer has still allowed only one goal all season long, which came on a penalty kick in its opener. La Verne slips to 2-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC.   

Freshman Samantha Thompson (Huntington Beach, Calif. - pictured) got the Sagehens going early with a goal just two minutes into the game. Just seven minutes later, junior defender Claire Mueller (Lincoln, Neb.) scored to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Senior forward Traci Lopez (Santa Fe, N.M.) followed with her fourth goal in the last three games, and freshman midfielder Amanda Coba (Woodinville, W.V.) added her first collegiate goal to cap off the first half scoring.

Delanie Pacheco recorded 11 saves for La Verne to prevent the Sagehens from having an even bigger day offensive. Sophomore Emma Wolfarth (Arlington, Va.) had two saves in net in the first half for the Sagehens. and sophomore Jana London (Chevy Chase, Md.) had one save in the second half in her first action of the season. Pomona-Pitzer held a 24-10 edge in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.  

Pomona-Pitzer will next be in action when it hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a key SCIAC game at 4 p.m.
