Women's Soccer: No. 10 Sagehens Fall To No. 1 Bears, 3-1

St. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team fell to No. 1 Washington University of St. Louis 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Gay Field.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens have now dropped back to back games to top-three ranked opponents and fall to 1-2 overall while Washington stay perfect on the year and improves to 3-0 overall.

The Sagehens were led by freshman Chloe Hamer who scored her first collegiate goal of her career. Sophomore Isa Berardo was in goal for the loss but tallied five saves in eight shots on goal.

The Bears were led by Taylor Cohen who tallied two goals in the win while Maggie Crist chipped in with one.

Washington got out to an early lead at home in this one as they found the back of the net in 4th minute of play as Taylor scored her first goal of the afternoon off of a header from a corner kick from Darcy Cunningham to put the Bears up 1-0.

The Sagehens would come back and respond in the first half as Hamer blasted a ball from 30 yards over the head of the goalkeeper to find an equalizer for Pomona-Pitzer in the 17th minute with the scored tied at 1-1.

Pomona-Pitzer tried to get to halftime with a level score but the Bears struck again in the final seconds of the first half as Washington scored off of another corner this time off of the head of Crist from Cunningham to take a 2-1 lead over the Sagehens heading into halftime.

The Bears extended their lead to 3-1 in the 53rd minute as Cohen found her second goal of the afternoon as she struck a cross from Cunningham and found the back of the net to cushion the lead to two goals.

The Bears defense turned on in the second half as they limited the Sagehens to just three shots and controlled possession to remain undefeated on the year and handed the Sagehens their second-straight loss of the season.
