CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team drew with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 1-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 5-5-3 overall and 5-3-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by senior Abby Onderwyzer Gold who netted the only goal of the game for Pomona-Pitzer.
Today's game was the fourth time Pomona-Pitzer entered overtime this season without coming away with a win as they drew in their past three trips to overtime and lost in their first SCIAC game of the season in double overtime.
The offensive woes continued for the Sagehens tonight as they now have scored just one goal in their past three games coming after their impressive 4-0 win over Chapman.
However, the Sagehens seemed to dominate play early on in their matchup against the Bulldogs as they controlled possession for the better part of the first half. Pomona-Pitzer was even able to play from in front as they earned a first half goal in the 40th minute when a ball was cleared back off of a corner attempt that found Onderwyzer Gold who struck a perfect lob shot over the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead just before halftime.
The Sagehens kept a lead into the second half until the Bulldogs scored a goal in the 66th minute when Emily Falla shot a slow bouncer towards the Sagehens' goal that was mishandled by the Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper and rolled to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
After giving up the lead, the Sagehens had a few attempts to get back into the game late as they had four corners in the second half and three shots on goal as well but could not find a go-ahead goal as the two teams headed into overtime.
Each team had good looks in the overtime period but neither team was able to beat the keeper to cash in on a golden goal as the Sagehens drew for the third time this season.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to SCIAC opponent Whittier College on Saturday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m.
