CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens stay perfect on the year at 4-0 and improve to 2-0 in the SCIAC.
The Sagehens had plenty of offensive opportunities in the first half but could not get many shots on goal. Out of nine shots in the first half, the Sagehens only put one ball on frame until Gane rocketed a ball past the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 in the 44th minute just before halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer was much more polished in the second half as Ponzio found the back of the net off of an assist from senior Peri Cuppens and then Gane drew a penalty that gave Kuo a chance from the spot that ended in a penalty kick goal to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 75th minute.
The defense was sensational for the Sagehens all game long as they held La Verne to just four total shots and controlled the pace of the game all 90 minutes.
