CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 8-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play. This is just the second loss of the season for the Sagehens, both of which were by the score of 1-0.
Pomona-Pitzer was active on offense in the first half as they outshot the Tigers 6-2. The Sagehens tried to convert on the long ball against the Tigers' defense but Sydney Tomlinson played well in goal for Occidental with 11 saves in the shutout.
The Tigers only had two shots on goal in the game and just one corner attempt against the Sagehens but got their scoring chance by way of a penalty kick as a foul inside the box led to the Tigers getting the game deciding goal in the 71st minute by Katherine Kim.
Pomona-Pitzer tried to even up the score late in the game but could not connect passes deep inside the Tigers' defensive zone as Occidental was able to hold off the Sagehens and come away with the road victory.
