CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team drew with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent CMS 0-0 on Sunday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 10-2-2 overall and 7-2-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens honored its two seniors in Sarah Jones and Peri Cuppens before today's game for their 2018 senior day. Jones, a defender from Clackamas, Oregon, spent two seasons as a member of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team after transferring from the University of Portland. She has five career points with two goals and one assist. Cuppens, a forward from Lincoln, Nebraska, spent four seasons with the Sagehens as a striker. She has 41 points in her career with 17 goals and 7 assists.
Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Athenas 22-11 in the game but neither team could find the back of the net. CMS played back and didn't allow the Sagehens to create scoring chances inside the box.
Goalkeeper junior Isa Berardo led the way for the Sagehens with seven saves in goal and registered their fourth complete game shutout this season.
The Sagehens had some very good chances to score late in the game but the CMS goalkeeper had a terrific performance in goal with several acrobatic saves that helped preserve the tie for the Athenas.
