TACOMA, WA – The Sagehens took the top two spots in both relays, and the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team won big at Puget Sound, beating the Loggers 253-83.
Eva Gontrum opened up the individual competition winning the 400 yard IM with a time 4:44.05. Maddie Larkin took second (4:53.60) and Molly Weinstock placed third (4:55.69). Gontrum followed her performance in the 400 IM with a win in the 200 backstroke (2:13.31). Victoria Agostini followed behind in second (2:16.9).
Weinstock added a win in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:18.51.
The Sagehens took the top three spots in the 200 yard freestyle with Cayla Nishizaki winning the race (1:59.1), Katherine Lauerman finishing second (1:59.39), and Mariah Bowman taking third (2:04.51).
Mallorie Hsu and Angela Ling went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke. Hsu touched first at 1:00.36 and Ling finished with a time of 1:00.59. Hsu also won the 50 freestyle (25.79) with Sarah Jin taking second (26.05).
Maddie Kauahi won the 50 butterfly coming in at 26.43. Alex Seidel and Sabrina Kwan tied for second place, both touching in at 27.94. Kauahi also touched first in the 100 freestyle winning with a time of 53.14. Lauerman finished the 100 freestyle in third place (55.98).
The Sagehens swept the 50 backstroke with Ling winning (27.12), Lavinya Yap in second (29.26), and Seidel finishing third (29.45).
Doris, Weinstock, and Maddie Larkin went 1-2-3 in the 200 breaststroke finishing with times of 2:38.84, 2:38.85, 2:38.94 respectively.
Vanderpoel grabbed another win in the 200 yard IM (2:20.57) leading the Sagehens to another 1-2-3 finish with Dorris taking second (2:26.63), and Clare Flynn following in third (2:27.57).
Jin scored a win in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.15) and another win in the 100 IM (1:02.72). Nishizaki took second (1:03.32) and Seidel followed in third (1:04.11) in the 100 IM. Kwan finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.12).
The Sagehens began the day taking the top two spots in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Hsu, Bigus, Kwan, and Nishizaki won the race (1:52.69) and Agostini, Flynn, Jin, and Seidel took second place (1:54.09).
Pomona-Pitzer finished the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:41.62) with the combination of Hsu, Lauerman, Nishizaki, and Kauahi. The team of Ling, Bigus, Sterner, and Gontrum took third (1:46.42).
Next Meet: The Sagehens return to Haldeman Pool next Saturday for a home meet against Caltech and Occidental at 10:30 a.m.
