Women's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Move to Second Place After Day 2 of SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, CA — The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team moved up to second place overall after second places finishes in the 200 yard freestyle relay and 50 yard freestyle on day two of the SCIAC Championships.

200 Freestyle Relay

The Sagehens took second in the 200 freestyle relay with a NCAA B-Cut time of 1:35.56. Cayla Nishizaki, Sabrina Kwan, Alex Seidel, and Maddie Kauahi combined for the fastest time of the year in the event for Pomona-Pitzer.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the race with a time of 1:34.99, and Chapman took third with a time of 1:37.71.

50 Freestyle

Maddie Kauahi took second place in the 50 freestyle with a NCAA B-Cut time of 23.52, her fastest time of the year in the event.

Jocelyn Crawford from CMS won the event with a new SCIAC meet record of 23.34. The previous record was set by Kauahi last season (23.38). Grace Sanchez and Mardell Ramirez, both from Cal Lutheran, tied for third place with a time of 23.84.

Kauahi currently holds the Pomona-Pitzer record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.38.

500 Freestyle

Eva Gontrum was the top finisher for Pomona-Pitzer in the 500 yard freestyle. Gontrum took fourth place with a time of 5:06.76. The time was the fastest in the event this year for the Sagehens. Kay Sterner followed in fifth place with a time of 5:08.01.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took the top three spots in the event with Elizabeth Carrade winning (5:01.17), Lauren Rosenberger in second (5:04.60), and Shannon Steele in third (5:06.43).

200 Individual Medley

Sarah Jin finished in fourth place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:08.68. Jin's time was the fastest for Pomona-Pitzer in the 200 IM this season.

Ellie Jaques from Redlands won the event (2:05.71), Stephanie Doi from CMS took second (2:06.31), and Ivy Chen from CMS finished third (2:08.20.
