Women's Tennis: Sagehens Defeat Poets In Round One Of SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier College 5-0 in round one of the SCIAC Championships on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The No. 2 seeded Sagehens got through the doubles matches unscathed against the No. 7 seeded Poets as they swept doubles play to open up the match.

Arianna Chen and Caroline Casper got through their match at the No. 2 doubles spot with an 8-0 sweep as well as the team of Grace Hruska and Joy Kim coming away with an 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles match.

The Sagehens ended doubles as the team of Emily Chen and Maryann Zhao came away with an 8-3 win to give Pomona-Pitzer a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

Pomona-Pitzer ended the match with wins at the No. 5 and 6 singles spots as Mallory Roth and Jay Kim both swept their opponents by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 to give the Sagehens a win in round one of the SCIAC Championships.
