LOS ANGELES, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team maintained their undefeated record in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Friday evening, taking down Occidental College in a commanding 9-0 sweep. The victory bolstered the Sagehens to an 8-5 record overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer controlled the match from the start, cruising to a convincing sweep in the doubles. Maryann Zhao and Arianna Chen combined in no. 1 doubles to an 8-3 victory over Samantha Farrell and Jane Wright. In no. 2 doubles, Caroline Casper and Summer Garrison only surrendered one set, taking down Andrea Clawson and Alana Adelman 8-1. Olivia Mendoza and Yurie Heard took down Lauren Hutkin and Nicole Pelletier in no. 3 doubles 8-2.
The Sagehens continued to dominate the match in singles. Zhao won no. 1 singles over Farrell 6-2 and 6-0 while Shivani Doraiswami took down Wright in no. 2 via retirement, having led 2-1 before the match ended. Emily Chen had no problem taking down Clawson, winning with a pair of 6-1 sets in no. 3 singles while Jacinta Chen won no. 4 over Adelman with a pair of 6-1 sets as well. Mendoza took down Pelletier in no. 5 singles 6-0 and 6-2, and Alex Ferry came out on on top in no. 6 singles over Hutkin with a pair of 6-3 sets.
Up Next: The Sagehens will head over to Pasadena to take on Caltech at 10 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Cal State Los Angeles.
