CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Program will be competing in the NCAA Regional Tournament after finishing in second place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and ranking no. 7 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The bracket was announced on Monday morning by the NCAA and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was chosen as a host site for the regional competition.
Heading over to the Biszantz Family Tennis Center alongside the Sagehens are No. 20 Trinity (TX), No. 27 Whitman, and No. 37 University of Texas, Tyler.
The Sagehens will face Trinity in the first round on Friday, May 11, setting up a rematch from last season's NCAA Regional First Round. The Sagehens took down the Tigers last season 5-2 thanks to solid performances by Arianna Chen, Caroline Casper, and Maryann Zhao. The three returnees are slated to play in the first round.
On the other side of the bracket, Whitman and UT Tyler will face off in the play-in round on Thursday, May 10 and the winner of that match will take on No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first round on Friday. The winners of the first round matches will face off on Saturday, May 12 and the victor will advance to the National Championship Round, also held at CMS, on May 21.
