NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to Emory 9-0 in the ITA Indoor Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at The Ensworth School.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-2 overall on the year.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a slow start during the doubles competition as they fell in all three matches. Maria Lyven and Margherita Andreassi fell at No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-2 followed by a loss at No. 2 doubles as Arianna and Jacinta Chen fell 8-4. The No. 3 doubles team of Caroline Casper and Jay Kim put up a fight in their match but couldn't pull out a point for the Sagehens as they fell 8-5.
Pomona-Pitzer dropped all three doubles matches in the quarterfinals match with Carnegie Mellon and still managed to come away with a victory; however, the challenge a big greater against the No. 2 ranked Emory Eagles.
The Sagehens would go on to fall in all six singles matches against the Eagles with Lucy Jiang losing at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Andreassi falling at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1. Rebecca Salaway could not pull out a victory at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-2 loss and Lyven fell at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Casper went on to lose to the No. 1 ranked singles player by the score of 6-2, 6-3 while Arianna Chen forced a third set but ultimately fell by the scores of 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (4-0).
