Women's Tennis: 9-0 Sweep Puts Sagehens Past Gustavus Adolphus Lions

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team completed a dominating 9-0 sweep over Gustavus Adolphus on Monday night, with all of their singles players winning in two sets.

Grace Hruska and Arianna Chen managed to earn the first point for the Sagehens, defeating Simona Potockova and Hannah Borgh 8-4 in no. 2 doubles. Later, Caroline Casper and Maria Lyven took down Briana and Lilly Hartmann in no. 1 doubles 8-5. Lucy Jiang and Jacinta Chen played to a close 8-7 victory over Ginger Valentine and Anna Stutz in no. 3 doubles after a 10-3 tiebreaker victory.  

Casper made quick work in her no. 1 singles matchup with Briana Hartmann, winning with a 6-1 and 6-2 set. Lucy Jiang also dominated in her no. 4 singles match with Simona Potockova with a pair of 6-1 sets while Jacinta Chen took her no. 6 singles match against Sydney Douglas 6-0 and 6-1. In no. 2 singles, Maria Lyven won in convincing manner over Ginger Valentine 6-1 and 6-3 while Rebecca Salaway defeated Anna Stutz in no. 5 singles 6-1 and 6-2. Arianna Chen completed the sweep with a 6-4 and 7-5 win over Lilly Hartmann in no. 3 singles.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Whittier College and Point Loma this upcoming Friday, April 5. They will battle their SCIAC rival at 3:00 p.m. before taking on Point Loma at 6:00 p.m.
