LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's track and field team had a select team of individuals compete at the Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles, California.
Senior Maya Weigel broke her own school record in the 1500 meter run with a third place finish (first collegian) in 4:26.25, more than three seconds faster than her old record and an NCAA Division III national-leading mark. It's also the second best time in SCIAC history.
Senior Rhea Jayachandran ran 15.29 to take fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, which was her second best time ever.
Senior Ailene Nguyen finished in eighth place in the 100 meter dash as she clocked in with a time of 12.85 and also took first place in the long jump with a distance of 17-06.25 feet.
Junior Kaile Sauro ran 2:29.73 in the 800 meter run, which is her second best time ever, good for 37th overall. Jordan Jenkins ran 42:00.17 in the 10000 meter run to record a personal best by exactly one minute.
"We didn't have a full team," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "But those who were there competed well, highlighted by Maya's school record. She got a chance to be in a pack of runners as good as she is, which is exactly what she needs right now. She can go even faster. I was also pleased with Rhea's hurdles, Jordan's 25-lapper, and Kaile's 800. Kaile will need that for her upcoming heptathlons, since the 800 is her final event."
The Sagehens next hit the track as they travel to San Diego to compete in the Point Loma Invitational on Saturday, March 26th at 10 a.m.
