Women's Track and Field: Sagehens Set Impressive Marks at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, CA — Jessica Finn won the javelin, and Kaile Sauro and Waylon Henggeler both set personal records Friday afternoon at Occidental's Distance Carnival and Sprint Fest.

The annual meet at Occidental College features a mix of athletes from four-year colleges and universities across all divisions, junior colleges, and unattached runners.

Finn won the javelin with a throw of 129-08. Her mark is the best this year in NCAA Division III. The junior holds the fifth best mark in Pomona-Pitzer history at 133-1. Finn also finished with a throw of 111-04 in the hammer throw. Cybele Kappos finished with a throw of 119-09 in the event.

Sauro had a career day, setting her personal record in the 800 meter with a time 2:22.74. The senior's time was the third fastest among Division III runners. Sauro also competed in the high jump finishing with a jump of 4-09.75. 

Henggeler followed suit, setting a lifetime best time of 12:35.87 in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Abby Gardner, who owns the Pomona-Pitzer record in the event (11:22.95), finished with a time of 11:30.79.

Helen Guo competed in the 1500 meter finishing with the third fastest time among Division III runners, posting a time of 5:00.28.

Next Meet: The Sagehens have a two week break before competing next on March 25 at the Point Loma Invitational in San Diego beginning at 10 a.m.
