Sagehens Turn It Up For 3-1 Win Over Chapman

Orange, Calif. - After dropping the first set, the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team found its groove and rolled on to a 3-1 road win over Chapman on Friday evening. 

Set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 25-8, 25-16 in favor of the Sagehens, who improve to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the SCIAC with the win. Chapman falls to 3-12 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss. 

Pomona-Pitzer had a balanced attack on offense, as senior Allie Frappier had 14 kills, sophomore Samantha Quesada-Diaz and senior Ellen Yamasaki each had 10, senior Samantha Cahill had seven and sophomore Sarah Gamble had six. Cahill (pictured) also added eight blocks defensively, while junior Michelle Schultz had 21 digs.   

The first two sets were close, with Chapman holding off the Sagehens in the first one and Pomona-Pitzer holding the Panthers off in the second to level the match. However, the final two sets both saw the Sagehens jump out to 6-0 leads as they seized control from the beginning. The third set saw Pomona-Pitzer roll out to a 14-1 lead before winning 25-8 while the fourth set saw Chapman get back to within 14-10 before the Sagehens rattled off five points in a row.    

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Caltech at 6 p.m.
