Volleyball: Sagehens Open SCIAC Play with Win over Beavers

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Julia Zwaal had double digit kills, and the Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team made quick work of Caltech, beating the Beavers in three sets 25-16, 25-16, 25-9.

The Sagehens improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC.

Caltech drops to 1-4 and 0-1 in SCIAC play.

Zwaal finished with 12 kills, she was followed by freshman Isabel Kelly who had eight, and senior Stephanie Sun who put down seven. Zwaal and Sun also added five digs each.

Natalie Martin led the Saghens with 11 digs and also dished out two assists. Jessica Finn added six digs to go with 21 assists.

Sarah Gamble had two service aces in the match and two kills. Freshman Brooke Carlson and sophomore Sophie Janssen each had three kills.

Sophomore Christine Covode totalled four kills and Jackie Roland dealt 14 assists. 

Next Game: The Sagehens play the Whittier College Poets next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
