Volleyball: Sagehens Drop First SCIAC Game at Chapman

Orange, Calif. – Sarah Gamble had a season-high nine kills and Jessica Finn had 21 assists and the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens took every set down to the wire.

But the Chapman Panthers pulled away in the end beating the Sagehens in three sets. 

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now tied for second place with Cal Lutheran with a 3-1 record in the SCIAC and are 7-5 overall.

The Panthers move to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the SCIAC.

Set Scores: 25-22, 29-27, 26-24

Gamble, who usually does most of her work defensively leading the Sagehens with 40 total blocks, was effective on both ends in the match, adding four blocks to go with her nine kills.

Julia Zwaal led Pomona-Pitzer with 11 kills and had seven digs. 

Stephanie Sun led all players with five service aces and added seven kills, seven digs, and one block.

Finn led the Sagehens with nine digs and added a block. Isabel Kelly added three blocks of her own to go with six kills. 

Christine Covode put down four kills and libero Sophie Janssen had five digs. 

Next Match: Pomona-Pitzer heads to Occidental College next Friday to play the Tigers at 7 p.m.
