Volleyball: Sagehens Fall in Five to Tigers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Stephanie Sun had a season-high 16 kills and the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 set lead.

But the Occidental Tigers rallied, beating the Sagehens in five sets.

Season Impact: The Sagehens move to 3-2 in the SCIAC, sitting alone in fourth place, and are 7-6 overall.

The Tigers improve to 2-4 in SCIAC play and 5-9 overall.

Set Scores: 22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-9

Sun hit .400 in the match and added 11 digs with 2 service aces. Julia Zwaal led all players with 18 kills and five service aces and had 13 digs. 

Jessica Finn spread the ball around, finishing with 22 assists. Jackie Roland had 15 assists of her own to go with nine digs and two service aces.

Sophie Janssen had a team-high 24 digs and season-high eight assists, following up a six assist performance against Chapman last Saturday.

Freshman Isabel Kelly totalled eight kills.

Pomona-Pitzer led 2-0 after the first two sets, hitting .300 in the second set, but went cold in the final two sets of the match.

Next Match:The Sagehens face second place La Verne in a key match-up tomorrow in Voelkel Gymnasium. The Leopards are coming off a four set win over No. 4 and defending NCAA Champion Cal Lutheran. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
