Volleyball: Sagehens Earn Win Over East Texas Baptist In Trinity Tournament

TRINITY, TX. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team picked up a win against East Texas Baptist by the score of 3-1 at Calgaard Gymnasium.

The Sagehens won by the scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 and 26-24.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by Isabell Kelly and Julia Zwaal who each shared a team-high 15 kills in the in. Jessica Finn racked up a season-high 25 assists and Zwaal also led the team with 20 digs.

The Sagehens jumped out to a lead in the first set by East Texas Baptist battled back and took a 17-16 lead. Pomona-Pitzer came back and outscored their opponent 9-4 to take set one.

The second set started very close with neither team pulling away until East Texas Baptist rattled off five-straight points to take a 14-9 lead. The Tigers held off the Sagehens late in the set and evened the score at 1-1.

The Sagehens jumped out to a big 12-4 lead in a crucial set three and never looked back as they dominated the set 25-15 to take a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers came out strong with their backs against the wall in set four as they held a 10-5 lead early on. The Sagehens chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 22-22 after a kill by Kayla Krilove.

After the game was tied at 24-24 the Sagehens scored back to back kills by Julia Zwaal as Pomona-Pitzer earned the win over East Texas Baptist.

Pomona-Pitzer split day one as they fell 3-0 to Southwestern at Webster Gymnasium. The Sagehens fell in straight sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16.

The Sagehens were led by Zwaal and Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong who each had six kills. Britnie Casillas led the team with 10 assists and Natalie Martin led the team with 11 digs.

Pomona-Pitzer went 0-2 in the second day of the tournament as they fell to Trinity and Wisconsin-Whitewater by the scores of 3-0, 3-0.

The Sagehens fell to Trinity by the set scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-14 and fell to Whitewater 25-12, 27-25 and 25-17.

Kelly led the Sagehens against Trinity with a team-high seven kills while Finn tallied 15 assists and Martin chipped in with 11 digs.

Zwaal led the team against White-water with seven kills, Finn had nine assists and Martin led the team with 10 digs.
