CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech 3-0 on Friday night at Braun Gymnasium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-17 overall and 5-8 in conference play this season.
The Sagehens came out in the first set with the Beavers staying within striking distance at 11-11 after an attack error by Caltech. The Sagehens then sprung for seven-straight points to take an 18-11 lead but the Beavers came back to tie the match late at 22-22. The Sagehens went on to score three of the final four points of the match and took set one, 25-23.
Much like the first set, the Sagehens and Beavers both found themselves in an 11-11 tie to start the set. The two teams went back and forth as neither team could pull away with the Sagehens holding a slight one-point lead at 21-20. Pomona-Pitzer rattled off three-straight points and took a 24-20 lead after a Deatherage kill and Deatherage came back one point later and sealed set two for the Sagehens to take a 2-0 lead.
After taking a 2-0 lead, the Sagehens came out and mounted an early lead in set three against the Beavers. After going ahead 12-11, the Sagehens went on a 5-1 run to take their largest lead of the set at 17-12. The Beavers got back into the set after four-straight attack errors by the Sagehens to trim the lead down to 20-19 but the Sagehens closed out the game after a Addo-Ashong kill and finished off their sweep of the Beavers for the season series.
