CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Program released its 2018 schedule today, preparing to take on 28 regular season matches this year.
The Sagehens will start the season by hosting the 2018 Pacific Coast Classic alongside Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and University of La Verne from August 31 to September 1. The Hens will play their opening match against St. Scholastica at 1:15 p.m. on August 31 followed by a 5:30 p.m. match against Franklin & Marshall. They will also face Mount Aloysius the next day at 11:45 a.m. and Salisbury University at 4:30 p.m.
Following the Pacific Coast Classic, the Sagehens will head over to Cal Lutheran University for the Cal Lu Fornia Tournament on Friday, September 7 to take on Hardin-Simmons and Puget Sound. On the second day of the tournament, the Hens will face Mary Hardin Baylor followed with Clarkson University who appeared in last season's NCAA Tournament.
"We have one of the toughest conferences in the nation, so any matches that can help prepare us for SCIAC play is welcome!" said Head Coach Valerie Townsend. "We have a very solid non-conference schedule and will test ourselves against some very tough regional competition in Hardin-Simmons, Puget Sound, and Mary Hardin Baylor."
"We look forward to seeing where we stand with the out of region competition, including Clarkson and U Mass Boston – both of which went to the post season in 2017, as well as strong contenders Salisbury, Franklin & Marshall, Nazareth and DeSales."
Pomona-Pitzer will kick off conference play after over a week, traveling to University of Redlands on Saturday, September 15 at 12:00 p.m. They'll play their first SCIAC home game on Tuesday, September 18 as they host Caltech at 7:00 p.m.
The team will later compete at the Leopard Invitational on Friday, October 5 as they face University of Massachusetts – Boston at 2:00 p.m. and Nazareth College at 7:00 p.m. They take on UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. and Desales University at 3:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 9, the Sagehens will face off against cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Roberts Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. They will host their rivals later in the month on Wednesday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Hens close out the regular season on Saturday, October 27 as they host La Verne at 4:00 p.m. for a special Senior Night game.
"We are looking forward to battling to get back into our SCIAC Tournament and can't overlook anyone in conference," said Coach Townsend. "The level of play is so tight these days. I just want to see our team come out and compete their hardest, then good things will happen."
