CLAREMONT, CA. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named senior Julia Zwaal and junior Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team to the All-SCIAC Second Team on Monday morning. The two hitters have done an excellent job in keeping the Sagehens in games for majority of the season with their hard hits and strong net protection.
Zwaal led the Sagehens in nearly every offensive category, posting 199 total kills in SCIAC play and averaged 3.11 kills per set, with 267 total kills in the season. The outside hitter also had a team-high 38 service aces and recorded 15 total blocks. This was her second All-SCIAC honor of her career. Her best performance came against Occidental College on October 16 when she posted a team-high 20 kills and reached for 24 digs to help the Sagehens win 3-2. She also recorded 19 kills in a four-set victory over La Verne on October 27 and scored three service aces.
Addo-Ashong finished the season second in the team for total kills, recording 247 kills, 156 in SCIAC play. The middle hitter also led the team with 80 total blocks, 14 solos and 56 assisted. The junior shone in the team's 3-2 victory over Whittier back on September 22, landing 11 kills and placing six total blocks. She also broke out for 18 kills, two service aces, and two assisted blocks against Occidental for a 3-2 victory back on October 16.
