Balanced Offense Helps Sagehens Split

Los Angeles - Mahalia Prater-Fahey (pictured) had three goals and five others had two as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team defeated CSU San Bernardino 14-6 in the second of two matches at the LMU Zumo Invite on Friday.

The Sagehens also dropped their first match of the tournament 14-2 to Princeton, moving to 14-9 overall on the season with the split.

In the Princeton match, Chrissie Alving-Trinh gave Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers scored the next eight goals before Christina Williamson broke the slide for the Sagehens in the third quarter. Sallie Walecka started her first game of the year in goal and had 13 saves, but Katie Rigler had four of her five goals for Princeton in the second quarter.

The reverse happened in the second match as Pomona-Pitzer scored four straight goals to take a 6-1 in the second quarter and then built it to 10-2 early in the third quarter. Alyssa Woodward had both of her goals during the run. Sisters Carter Grant and Hope Grant also had two goals apiece, as did Williamson and junior Sarah Westcott.

Pomona-Pitzer completes play at the Zumo Invite tomorrow with matches against Hartwick and host Loyola Marymount.
