Balanced Sagehens Cruise To Win Over Caltech

Claremont, Calif. - Nine different players scored goals and four different players had saves as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team earned a 14-1 win over Caltech on Saturday at Haldeman Pool.

With the win, Pomona-Pitzer moves to 18-13 overall on the season and 5-1 in the SCIAC, while Caltech slips to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in league play.

Sisiter Carter Grant and Hope Grant (pictured) tied for team high honors with three goals apiece for the Sagehens, while Christina Williamson had two.

With regular starting goalie Ahsha Earwood out with an injury, Pomona-Pitzer used four different field players in goal over the course of the match. Sallie Walecka has been playing goalie in recent weeks, but came out into the field and scored a goal for the Sagehens. Leading scorer Alyssa Woodward started and had four saves, while Vicky Gyorffy played the second quarter and had three.

Mahalia Prater-Fahey, whose younger brother Caleb is a goalie on the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team, played the third quarter in goal and Sarah Westcott finished out the match in goal in the fourth, with each adding a save.

Pomona-Pitzer concludes the regular season this week with its final home match on Wednesday against Chapman at 5 p.m., followed by a road match at CMS on Saturday
