Offense Catches Fire As Sagehens Sweep Two

Whittier, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team scored a combined 36 goals as it cruised to a pair of wins at the Whittier Mini-Invitational on Saturday.

The Sagehens won the opening match in the morning 17-11 over Concordia (Irvine) and then rolled to a 19-2 win over Occidental in their afternoon match.

Senior All-American Alyssa Woodward had five goals against Concordia and junior defender Megan Snow (pictured) had a career-high four.  Pomona-Pitzer led 9-4 at intermission and scored the first goal of the second half (from Hope Grant) to push it to 10-4.

Concordia rallied to within 10-7 late in the third, but Snow stopped the momentum with a goal in the final minute of the third, and Woodward started the fourth with a goal to make it 12-7. Grant and Sarah Westcott each added two goals for Pomona-Pitzer, while freshman Molly Edison scored one as well.

The nightcap was all Sagehens, as they jumped out to an 11-1 halftime lead on Occidental. Ten different players scored goals for Pomona-Pitzer, as Westcott finished with four goals, and freshman Morgan McCracken added three, along with Woodward and senior Mahalia Prater-Fahey, while Carter Grant had two.

Pomona-Pitzer is next in action when it travels to Cal Baptist next weekend to take on Division I powerhouse USC (its first of two meetings with the Trojans this year) and Whittier on Saturday. The Sagehens will also face Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
