Sagehens Fall Twice At Cal Baptist Tournament

Riverside, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team fell to No. 3 USC and SCIAC rival Whittier in a non-conference match on the first day of the Cal Baptist Invitational on Saturday.

Final scores were 30-4 against USC and 8-6 against Whittier. The losses drop the Sagehens to 2-4 on the young season, after they defeated Concordia and Occidental last weekend.

Senior Mahalia Prater-Fahey (pictured) scored three times against the third-ranked Trojans for the Sagehens, while junior Megan Snow added one. Senior Alyssa Woodward had three goals in the nightcap against Whittier, while Snow and seniors Sarah Westcott and Chrissie Alving-Trinh each had one.

Pomona-Pitzer trailed 4-2 at the half against Whittier, but pulled even 5-5 at the end of the third on a Snow goal with 32 seconds left. The Poets, though, scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to take a 7-5 lead. Woodward got the Sagehens within 7-6 with 4:13 left, but they could come no closer.

The Sagehens conclude play at the Cal Baptist Invitational tomorrow with a match against Cal State Northridge.
