Women's Water Polo Falls To Brown In Defensive Struggle

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team was held to only three goals as it dropped a narrow 5-3 decision to Brown on Tuesday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.

The loss levels the Sagehen record at 9-9 on the season, while Brown improves to 12-10 with the win.

Freshman Morgan McCracken scored on the first possession of the game to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead, but Brown surged ahead 4-2 at the half, with Liz Rosen scoring her second of the game with 27 seconds left in the second quarter. Alyssa Woodward had the only goal of the second quarter for the Sagehens on a five-meter shot.

Brown goalie Marisol Dakan had a couple of key saves early in the second half to stop Pomona-Pitzer from gaining any momentum, before McCracken finally converted on her second to make the score 4-3. Marisa Kolokotronis scored for Brown with just over two minutes left in the third, and neither team would score again the rest of the way.

Dakan had three of her 13 saves in the fourth quarter to prevent Pomona-Pitzer from denting the 5-3 lead. Ahsha Earwood (pictured) had six saves for the Sagehens and allowed only five goals in the losing cause.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Chapman to resume SCIAC play for an 11 a.m. match.
