LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team dropped both of their games in the Bruin Invitation to San Jose State 14-4 and to UCLA 25-3 on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, California.
The Sagehens took on San Jose State in game one of their double header.
The Spartans took a big lead in the first quarter as they outscored the Sagehens 7-0. Pomona-Pitzer got one the score board in the second quarter as freshman Nohea Kahaulelio and freshman Samantha Martinez found the back of the net and outscored the Spartans 2-1 in the second quarter to cut the lead down to 8-2.
The Sagehens scored two more goals in the third quarter as Martinez tallied her second goal of the game and freshman Anna Yu added one more for the Sagehens but San Jose State held a 12-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Spartans scored four unanswered goals in the fourth as the Sagehens dropped the first game of the Bruin Tournament.
The Sagehens next took on UCLA in game two. The Bruins jumped out to a 16-0 run before the Sagehens scored their first goal of the game by freshman Natalie Hill.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to score two more goals in the fourth quarter as Yu and junior Christina Williamson found the back of the net but the Bruins defeated Pomona-Pitzer to end the Bruin Invitational.
The Sagehens next host Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Caltech and non-conference opponent Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, April 6th at 4:00 p.m.
