CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team cruised to a big 17-2 win over Southern California intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-11 overall and remain perfect in SCIAC play at 7-0.
The Sagehens jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter after Yu scored her first two goals of the day to take a 2-0 lead after one period of play. Pomona-Pitzer came back with a huge second period as they netted six goals while shutting out the Tigers in the first half. Nohea Kahaulelio got the scoring going off of an assist from Lucie Abele while Abele followed up with a goal of her own to push the lead to 4-0. Kahea Kahaulelio got on the board twice in the second period while Katherine Cullen and Abele also netted goal to guide the Sagehens to an 8-0 lead at the half.
The Sagehens followed up with six more goals in the third while the Tigers ended up getting their first goal of the game. Pomona-Pitzer opened up with five-straight goals in the third from Kahea Kahaulelio, Yu, Janelle Lewis and Natalie Hill before the Tigers broke the goal streak with 3:26 left in the third. Samantha Martinez ended the third with her first goal of the day to extend the lead to 14-1 after the third.
After doing most of their damage in the second and third periods, the Sagehens cruised in the fourth with three more goals from Yu, Kahaulelio and Allison Sullivan Wu as they stayed perfect in conference play with a big win over the Tigers.
