CLAREMONT, CA. - Four student-athletes from the Pomona-Pitzer Athletics Program were named SCIAC Athlete of the Week after their standout performances on the field this past week. Liz Rodarte was named Pitcher of the Week for softball while Natalie Hill's huge contributions on offense earned her Athlete of the Week for Women's Water Polo. Kiera Havill's all-around contributions on defense earned her Defensive Player of the Week for Lacrosse and Maria Lyven's undefeated run on the court earned her Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Kiera Havill has been a vacuum for the Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team, helping the team secure a lopsided 18-6 victory against Redlands on Saturday night. The sophomore led the team with three caused turnovers and four groundballs. She also assisted on the offensive end, finding Kate Immergluck on the power play for a goal.
Natalie Hill has orchestrated three close victories for the Sagehens this past Saturday scoring four goals and delivering 12 assists total. The Torrance-native had two goals and two assists in a double OT victory against Redlands, scoring the first goal of the game and scoring the go-ahead goal in overtime. She also assisted the last goal of the game by Anna Yu to seal the victory. In the Sagehens' 14-13 win against Whittier, Hill dished a career-high eight assists and drew three exclusions. In the final game against La Verne, Hill scored twice and assisted on two, converting the go-ahead goal in the final period to give the Sagehens the lead.
Maria Lyven has been undefeated this past week for the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team. In the team's match against Gustavus Adolphus, the first year combined with Caroline Casper to defeat Briana and Lilly Hartmann in no. 1 doubles 8-5. She also took down no. 17 Ginger Valentine in no. 2 singles 6-1 and 6-3. In the team's match against Whittier College, she worked with Casper against to defeat Kindall Yeung and Amanda Rodriguez 8-3 in no. 1 doubles. She also defeated Amanda Rodriguez 6-0 and 6-1 in no. 2 singles. In the team's match against Chapman, Lyven and Casper defeated Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross 8-2 in no. 1 doubles. She later won in no. 1 singles against Ogranovich 6-0 and 6-2.
Liz Rodarte threw 10.1 innings of shutout ball against the Occidental Tigers and finished the doubleheader weekend with a win and a save. The senior threw a complete game shutout against the Tigers in game one, hurling six strikeouts and surrendering only two hits en route to an 11-0 victory. In the second game, Rodarte entered the fourth inning to preserve a one-run lead and threw 3.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts to earn a save. Liz Rodarte batted 5-for-7 in the Sagehens' doubleheader against Occidental College, including a home run, a double, a walk, and six RBIs. In game one, the senior batted 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. She brought in the game's first run with an RBI single and blasted a two-run double in the seventh inning. In game two, Rodarte batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs, and a home run. The senior added to a four-run rally in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. She also slapped an RBI single in the fifth inning.
