Tucson, Ariz. - Senior center fielder Erik Munzer (Beverly Hills, Calif. - pictured) was 4-for-5 with four RBI, including a two-run double and an RBI triple, and sophomore Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif.) earned the win on the mound as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team took an 11-2 win over Macalaster at the Tucson Invitational Games.
With the win, the Sagehens, who are ranked No. 18 in Division III by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), improve to 16-5 on the season, while Macalaster slips to 5-11.
Freshman Simon Rosenbaum (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) got things started for the Sagehens with an RBI double in the top of the first, and was driven home by an RBI single from Munzer. Pomona-Pitzer extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second, but Macalaster answered with their only two runs off Bruml in the bottom half.
Munzer then came through with a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning for Pomona-Pitzer to give it control of the game for good. He later added an RBI triple in the eighth to cap off his 4-5 day.
Bruml threw eight strong innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits, to get the win and improve to 5-1 on the season and 12-1 in his college career. Rosenbaum ended the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of walks.
Pomona-Pitzer continues play at the Tucson Invitational Games with games against Buena Vista at 12 noon and Gustavus Adolphus at 4 p.m.
