Los Angeles, Calif. - Scott Hong threw a complete-game four-hitter and added an RBI as Occidental captured a 2-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
The loss drops Pomona-Pitzer to 25-12 on the season and 18-8 in the SCIAC, although the Sagehens have already secured the two seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Sophomore Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif. - pictured) threw well in defeat, going six innings and allowing only one run in the first, but he took the tough luck loss to fall to 7-3 on the year.
Senior Erik Munzer (Beverly Hills, Calif.) had two of the four hits for Pomona-Pitzer including a one-out triple in the fourth, but he was left stranded. After Hong had an RBI single in the seventh to make the score 2-0, the Sagehens got a run back in the eighth, but Occidental turned a double play with first and third and nobody out to prevent a big inning.
Hong hit a batter in the ninth, and the tying run moved into second on a wild pitch, but he was able to end the game on an infield pop-up.
Pomona-Pitzer concludes the regular season tomorrow with two home games, facing La Verne at 11 a.m. and Whittier at 3 p.m.
