Pericolosi Wins 300th Game As Sagehens Defeat Caltech

Claremont, Calif. - Jake Bruml (pictured) earned the pitching win and added a three-run homer as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team gave Head Coach Frank Pericolosi his 300th career win with a 14-3 victory over Caltech on Friday at Alumni Field.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-17 overall and 6-13 in league play, while Caltech falls to 1-21 overall and 0-17 in the SCIAC. Pericolosi, who is in his 11th season at Pomona-Pitzer, improves to 300-173-1 in his tenure.

Bruml's three-run homer capped off an 11-run third inning as the Sagehens blew the game open. Simon Rosenbaum had an RBI single in the first inning and came home on a throwing error.

In the third, Coleman Lukas drew a bases loaded walk, and Travis Bowers, Mark Okuma and Kevin Brice followed with RBI singles. Tanner Nishioka added a sacrifice fly, Rosenbaum drew another bases loaded walk, E.J. Lopez hit a two-run single and Bruml hit a three-run homer to account for the 11 runs. Nishioka added an RBI double in the fourth to cap off Pomona-Pitzer's scoring.

Bruml struck out nine and allowed four hits in five innings, while allowing two runs (both unearned). Sam Fox (2-for-3, two runs scored) and Okuma (2-for-3, RBI, run scored) had two hits apiece for Pomona-Pitzer.

The two teams will complete their three-game series tomorrow with a pair of games at Caltech.
