THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 3-2 and 8-5 in a double header on Saturday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 10-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play while the Kingsmen improve to 14-6 overall and 7-5 in the SCIAC this season.
The Kingsmen were led by Max Weinstein, Gabe Gunter and Weston Clark who each went 2-4 in the win.
The Sagehens did all of their damage early in the game as they scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning as Rogan singled home Nishioka and senior Kevin Jordan followed that up with a RBI single of his own to bring home freshman Nolan McCafferty to give Pomona-Pitzer an early 2-0 lead.
The Kingsmen came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth as Jauregui singled to left field and the Kingsmen scored two as an error allowed both runs to score to tie the game at 2-2.
Cal Lutheran went on to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Kay doubled to left center to bring in Fullerton as the Kingsmen took a 3-2 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer could not get its offense going late as they only tallied two hits in the final three innings as they dropped game one to the Kingsmen.
The Sagehens were led by Nishioka who went 4-5 with a RBI and three runs scored. Junior Cade Hulse went 3-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
The Kingsmen were led by Austin Kay who went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the win.
Much like game one, the Sagehens jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning as Hulse doubled in Nishioka and Rogan and then freshman Tyler Yoshihara walked with the bases loaded as the Sagehens took a 3-0 lead early.
Cal Lutheran answered in the bottom of the first with two runs on a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice to cut the lead down to 3-2.
Hulse came back and doubled for the second-straight inning to bring in Nishioka to extend the Sagehens' lead to 4-2.
The Kinsmen came back to score two more in the bottom of the fourth as Kay singled up the middle to bring in Sciumbato and Fullerton to tie the game at 4-4.
The Sagehens reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth as Nishioka connected for his 11th home run of the season on a solo shot to left field to give Pomona-Pitzer a 5-4 lead.
Cal Lutheran did their damage in the bottom of the seventh inning as three RBI singles in the inning led to the Kingsmen platting four runners to take an 8-5 lead late as they held on and took all three games from the Sagehens this weekend.
