CLAREMONT, CA. – Senior Tanner Nishioka has been tabbed as the 2017 West Region Player of the Year as announced by D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings on Tuesday morning.
Nishioka earned West Region Player of the Year for the first time in his collegiate career and has now earned back to back First Team All-West honors as well as two Second Team All-West honors for his sophomore and freshman years. Nishioka is the third Sagehen to be named West Region Player of the Year in the past four years joining Simon Rosenbaum (2014) and Sam Fox (2015).
Nishioka earned West Region Player of the Year as the senior second baseman was tabbed SCIAC Player of the Year earlier this month. Nishioka led the nation in home runs with 18 and slugging percentage at .888. Nishioka hit .441 this season for the Sagehens to go along with 48 runs scored, 67 hits, 53 RBI and a .542 on base percentage. Nishioka will end his career in the top-six all time at Pomona-Pitzer in the following categories: hits, home runs, batting average, runs and stolen bases.
"Tanner will go down as one of the best offensive talents in the history of Pomona-Pitzer Baseball", said Head Coach Frank Pericolosi. "His work ethic and commitment to baseball were outstanding during his time here and he's very deserving of this great honor."
Nishioka will await the announcement of the All-American selections, which will be released on Thursday morning.Download the Sagehen App Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter Follow us on Instagram Get the Sagehen Scoop
