CLAREMONT, CA. – Monday's non-conference matchup against Castleton ended with a lopsided domination by the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball Team as the Sagehens crushed the Spartans 17-5. Sophomore Jake Patterson-Kohout had a monstrous game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam, double, and a triple. He posted a team-high 8 RBIs with three runs. On the mound, Seth Stone threw for five innings and collected six strikeouts for his first win of the season.
Season Impact: The victory propels the Sagehens to a 4-1 record overall.
After trailing 2-0 early in the game, the Sagehens bounced back quickly in the bottom of the first, with Brian Knapp scoring Kevin Lo from first off a deep double to left center. Later with the bases loaded and two outs, Patterson-Kohout crushed a laser over center field to put the Sagehens ahead 5-2.
The offense wasn't done as the Sagehens continued to bring in runs in the bottom of the third, With Jeremy Jess scoring from third off a wild pitch and Patterson-Kohout lacing a double to right field to extend the lead 7-2.
Seth Stone looked cool and collected on the mound after the first inning, holding the Spartans run-less from the second to fifth inning, retiring 11 out of 13 batters.
The game was put out of reach in the sixth inning when Patterson-Kohout hit a base-clearing triple to run the score up 13-3.
