Sagehens Set To Honor Eight Seniors Vs. La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA: The Pomona-Pitzer Football Program is set to honor eight seniors before today's game against La Verne at Merritt Field.

The 2016 Senior Class has been a strong one, producing two USA College Football 1st Team Preseason All-Americans, three SCIAC All-Academic Selections, and one All-SCIAC 1st Team Honoree. Highlights on the field also include tying a program high for SCIAC wins over the past 10 years during the 2013 season as well as their 37-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 2012. Here's a look at the 2016 Seniors:

#3 Matt O'Connor – Defensive Lineman, Louisville, CO:

Matt is finishing his fifth season with the Pomona-Pitzer Football Program after missing the 2014 season due to injury. Matt started the first 27 games of his collegiate career, compiling 160 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 6 pass breakups, 1.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Also a member of the Pomona-Pitzer Track and Field Program as a thrower, Matt is a 2012 & 2013 SCIAC All-Academic Honoree for both sports and received his degree from Pomona College in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and Theatre in May 2015.

#4 Isaac Richard III – Wide Receiver, Oakland, CA:

A three-year member of the team, Isaac has played on both sides of the ball in his career as well as returning kicks during his junior year. Isaac has totaled 20 tackles and 3 passes broken up as a defensive back the previous two seasons while catching 3 passes for 45 yards this year. Isaac was also a member of the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team in 2012 and will graduate from Pitzer College with a degree in Economics. 

#5 David Howell – San Rafael, CA:

David has been a strong contributor on the defensive side of the ball during all of his four years with the Sagehens. Starting in all seven games this season, David currently leads the team in tackles for loss while ranked third in pass breakups and fourth on the team in total tackles, solo tackles, and sacks. David has appeared in 31 of the Sagehens' 34 games during his career and has compiled 61 career tackles. A 2014 SCIAC All-Academic Team selection, David will graduate from Pomona College.

#8 Jack Pietrykowski – Wide Receiver, Orinda, CA:

Jack has developed into an offensive weapon for the Sagehens over the past three seasons, starting in 22 of the past 25 games. With 85 career receptions for 988 yards and 2 TDs, Jack led the Sagehens in receiving in 2014 with team highs in receptions, yards, and yards per game including a 13 catch 186 yard performance against La Verne. Jack is a 2013 & 2014 SCIAC All-Academic Team Selection and will graduate from Pomona College with a degree in Psychology.  

#9 Scott Tan – Linebacker, Honolulu, HI.

Initially starting his career as a fullback, Scott has appeared in 5 games for the Sagehens this season and registered nine tackles including one tackle for loss. A 2013 SCIAC All-Academic Team Selection. Scott spent the 2015 summer working as a research assistant at MIT and will graduate from Pomona College with a degree in Physics.

#42 Nelson Cole – Defensive Back, Austin, TX:

A three-year starter in the secondary for the Sagehens, Nelson has compiled two career interceptions and crossed the 100 career tackle barrier last week against Occidental while finishing 5th on the team in tackles during the 2014 season. Nelson will graduate from Pomona College with a degree in English and looks to attend law school after graduation.

#52 Grant Frazier – Offensive Lineman, Newport Beach, CA:

Switching between linebacker, fullback and nose tackle in his first two seasons, Grant found his home at Offensive Guard in 2014 where he earned First-team All-SCIAC honors. A 2015 Preseason All-America selection by USA College Football, Grant was also part of the offensive line that was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after leading the way for 670 yards of total offense against La Verne in 2014, the second most in program history. Grant also serves as a team captain for the Claremont Colleges Rugby team and will graduate from Pomona College with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
