Sagehens Jump On Caltech Early, Cruise To SCIAC Win

Pasadena, Calif. - Senior guard Xavyr Moss (pictured) hit three-pointers on the first three Sagehen possessions to help the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team jump out to a 15-0 lead and coast to an 87-60 win at Caltech on Saturday evening.

Moss finished with 16 points on 4-4 shooting from three-point territory and junior guard Michael Cohen added 19 on 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc for Pomona-Pitzer, which improves to 5-2 overall (5-0 against NCAA Division III teams) and 2-0 in the SCIAC with the win. Caltech slips to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the league with the loss.

Junior guard Kyle McAndrews added 12 points as all three Sagehen guards scored in double figures. Senior forward Jake Klewer added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Moss had nine points two minutes into the game to stake Pomona-Pitzer to a 9-0 lead. McAndrews, freshman guard Nick Nordale and sophomore forward Gibson Farone-Collins followed with buckets to make the score 15-0 before Caltech could break onto the scoreboard.

A Farone-Collins dunk gave Pomona-Pitzer a 20-point lead at 27-7 with 10:35 left and the Sagehen lead swelled to 51-19 at the break on a McAndrews jump shot.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel across the street to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first of two meetings with their next-door neighbors.
