Nine-Game Win Streak Snapped As Sagehens Fall At Cal Lutheran

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Men's Basketball team scored on its first nine possessions of the second half (21 points) to take control of the game and snap Pomona-Pitzer's nine-game win streak with a 74-61 win on Saturday.

The Sagehens drop to 14-6 overall and 9-2 in the SCIAC while suffering their first loss since a Dec. 29 defeat to Schreiner at the Trinity (Texas) Invitational. Cal Lutheran improves to 16-4 overall and 7-4 in the SCIAC with the win.

Pomona-Pitzer led 35-34 at the half after a three-pointer in the final minute by sophomore forward Gibson Farone-Collins. However, the Sagehens did not get a stop until 13:23 remained, as the Kingsmen scored 21 points on nine possession to take a 55-43 lead.

The Sagehens got back to within nine points at 57-48 with just over nine minutes left on a three-point play from senior forward Jake Klewer. Dan Wade answered with a three-pointer for Cal Lutheran and Coltrane Powdrill followed with a jumper to make the scored 62-48 and Pomona-Pitzer was unable to get it down to single digits again.

Klewer finished with 15 points on 5-6 shooting to go along with nine rebounds to lead the Sagehens, while junior guard Michael Cohen had 14 points Farone-Collins (pictured) added 11. Arik Smith led all scorers for Cal Lutheran with 26.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Whittier for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
