CLAREMONT, CA – Pomona-Pitzer's men's basketball team dropped their second-straight game to San Diego Christian College 88-75 Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by freshman Daniel Rosenbaum (Los Altos Hills, Calif. / Los Altos) who tallied 26 points in the loss to San Diego Christian. Also in double-digits for the Sagehens was senior Gibson Farone-Collins who put up 19 points and pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds.
San Diego Christian was led by Trevor English who led the Hawks in scoring with 22 points. Dalante Dunklin registered a double-double as he tallied 15 points and dished out 10 assists.
The Sagehens started off the game on top as they went on 9-2 run capped off by a Farone-Collins jumper that forced San Diego Christian to take an early timeout.
The Hawks chipped away at the Sagehen lead throughout the first half and tied the game up at 18-18 at the 10:42 minute mark after a three-point jumper by Mark Eden. The first half ended in a back and forth battle with San Diego Christian getting the edge as they capitalized with 10 points off of 10 turnovers from Pomona-Pitzer to end the half up 33-31.
The Hawks jumped out on a 9-0 run to open up the second half as the Sagehens committed three turnovers in the first two minutes of play. Pomona-Pitzer responded by going on an 8-0 run to cut the Hawks' lead down to one point with 12:34 remaining in the second half.
San Diego Christian began to pull away in the second half as the Hawks put together a spree of timely three-point shots to cut down any momentum that Pomona-Pitzer gained.
The Hawks shot 60.6% from the field and 66.7% from three opposed to Pomona-Pitzer who shot 45.8% from the field and only 31.3% from three.
The Sagehens will take a break for the holidays and will next take the court as they host Bethesda University on Tuesday, December 29th at 7:30 p.m.
