Men's Basketball: Sagehens Bounce Back With 78-61 Win Over Redlands

REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 78-61 on Saturday night at Currier Gymnasium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have now won five of their last six games and improve to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Redlands drops to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the SCIAC.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Corbin Koch and freshman Micah Elan who each had a game-high 21 points in the win. Sophomore Daniel Rosenbaum chipped in with a double-double as he tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

The Bulldogs were led by Trevor Baker who had a team-high 18 points. Jesse Wims chipped in with 11 and Sean Milligan tallied 10 in the loss.

The Sagehens had a hard time getting the offense going in the first half as the Bulldogs started the game out on a 16-2 run to take the early advantage.

After giving up the early big lead, Pomona-Pitzer had to chip away at the Redlands lead throughout the first half. Pomona-Pitzer battled all the way back and took the lead at 27-25 after Rosenbaum converted an and-one layup with 5:50 remaining in the first half.

After being down as much as 14 points in the first half, the Sagehens regrouped and went into the locker room with only a one-point deficit as Redlands led 34-33 at the half.

Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half and jumped out to a 16-4 run to take a 50-37 lead just over five minutes into the half.

The Sagehens shot lights out in the second half as they shot 53.8% (14-26) from the field and 50% (6-12) from three-point territory, which allowed them to continually build their lead throughout the second half.

The defense stepped up for the Sagehens in the second half as well as they outscored the Bulldogs 45-27 in the final 20 minutes of the game and held the Bulldogs to just 37.5% from the floor. 

Pomona-Pitzer's big second half was the difference in the game as they bounced back for their largest SCIAC win of the season.
