PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team fell on the road to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech 61-59 on Saturday night.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 14-10 overall and 10-5 in SCIAC play while the Beavers improved to 7-17 overall and 6-9 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Daniel Rosenbaum who had a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Corbin Koch tallied 10 points while freshman Micah Elan chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Beavers were led by Brent Cahill who tallied 22 points. Nasser Al-Reyes tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and David LeBaron chipped in with 11 points as well.
The Sagehens had a rough night from the floor against the Beavers as the team only shot 25% from the field and were just 2-20 from beyond the arc.
The Beavers started out the game on a 10-0 run to quickly jump ahead by double digits with just three minutes off of the clock.
Caltech took their largest lead of the first half at 37-23 with just under two minutes to play but the Sagehens scored some late buckets to close the gap to 38-27 entering the half.
The Beavers led for the entire duration of the game until the Sagehens closed out a 7-2 run to tie the game at 50-50 after a Mitchell Finkel jump shot with 7:09 remaining.
Pomona-Pitzer eventually took their first lead of the game after Rosenbaum hit a three pointer to take a 57-55 lead with 2:46 to go.
The Beavers took a 61-59 lead after a made jump shot with 56 seconds remaining but the Sagehens couldn't capitalize on their last possession as the Sagehens fell to the Beavers late in Pasadena.
