CLAREMONT, CA. – Sophomore Adam Rees notched a new career-high with 29 points as he led the Sagehens to their first win of the season with a 97-74 win over non-conference opponent LIFE Pacific on Tuesday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1-5 overall.
The Sagehens were led by Rees who went perfect on the night going 10-10 from the floor and 6-6 from beyond the arc. The only miss of the night for Rees was from the free-throw line where he was 3-4 from the stripe. Junior Daniel Rosenbaum tallied 20 points for the Sagehens while sophomore Micah Elan also was in double digits with 14 points and seven assists.
Pacific came out and took an early lead to start the game as they opened up on a 10-5 run in the first four minutes of the game, but the Sagehens responded with an explosion of offense as they sparked a 25-2 run capped out by a pair of Elan free-throws to take a 30-12 lead midway through the first half.
The Warriors tried to chip away at the Sagehens' lead but Pomona-Pitzer played a near perfect first half shooting 69% from the field and 64.3% from three-point range as they tallied a season-high 59 points in the first half to take a 59-36 lead heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer cooled off offensively in the second half but still maintained their first-half lead over the Warriors. Rees continued his streak of perfect shots into the second half as he went 3-3 from the floor with nine points before exiting the game with 3:13 to go to end his spectacular performance.
The Sagehens took their largest lead of the night with 4:47 to play as they went up 90-61 after a layup by James Kelbert. The Warriors fought back late in the game but the damage was already done by the Sagehens as they cruised to a 97-74 win at home.
