Hasse Shoots 74 To Begin Men's Golf Season

La Verne, Calif. - Senior John Hasse shot a 74 to open the spring season for the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Golf team at the Lamkin Grip Tournament at Sierra La Verne Country Club on Thursday.

Hasse, who was a second-team All-SCIAC selection in 2011, tied for fifth overall at the competition with his 74, which included a 36 on the front nine. He almost finished in the top four, but he lost a couple strokes on the 18th hole when he had to chip out from under a tree after the tee shot, and then was unable to get up-and-down out of a greenside bunker.

Bobby Holden of Redlands won the individual championship with a 71, while teammate Anthony Estes was tied for second (with Whittier's Doug Kennedy) as the Bulldogs earned the team championship with a 295.

John Nako was the second-highest finisher for Pomona-Pitzer, tying for 37th overall at the competition.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Sunday in its first SCIAC event of the year at Red Hill Country Club.
