Sagehens Close Gap On League Foes In SCIAC #2

Sterling Hills, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Golf team had an improved team performance at the second SCIAC 18-hole championships on Thursday at Sterling Hills.

The Sagehens did finish eighth at the event, but the scores were bunched together, with Pomona-Pitzer's 317 just two behind both Occidental and Chapman with 315 in sixth place, six behind CMS in fifth place (311) and nine behind Whittier in fourth place (308).  La Verne edged out Redlands 297 to 299 for first.

Senior John Hasse (Berkeley, Calif.) led the way for the Sagehens with a 76, including a 37 on the back nine. Gabe Romero (Claremont, Calif.) had his best round in the early part of the 2012 season, finishing with a 78, while John Nako (Honolulu, Hawaii) had an 81, Kyle Schneider (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) an 82, and Chandler Jennings (Austin, Texas) an 83.

Perry Johnson of Redlands won the individual title with a 69, the only competitor to come in with a score under par (71).

The Sagehens will be back in action at SCIAC #3, which will take place on March 8 at Industry Hills.
